Ueno Zoological Gardens is an urban zoo in the heart of the city that maintains its natural landscape and raises a wide variety of animals from across the globe.
The East Garden is located on the large tree-covered hills of Ueno Gardens, and houses the mid-sized primates, as well as the Gorilla and Tiger Forest, Elephant Forest, Bear Hill, and Polar Bears and Seal Oceans.
In the West Garden, north of the picturesque lotus-covered Shinobazu Pond with its scattered islands, you can meet African animals with giraffes, hippos, rhinoceros, shoebill storks, and aye-ayes. You can also explore Small Mammal House, Amphibian and Reptile House, and Children’s Zoo with farm animals.
