This complex explains the history and culture of Kyoto, which has had an important influence on the whole of Japanese culture. A variety of special exhibits are regularly hosted, and the general area provides a broad introduction to the history, art and culture of Kyoto. The theater shows valuable films from the Kyoto Prefectural Government archives.
Inside, enjoy a reconstruction of an Edo Period street complete with shops and restaurants called "Roji Tempo." The museum annex is a red brick building that was constructed in the Meiji Era as the Kyoto branch of the Bank of Japan, which is now a designated important cultural asset.
