Manga is now famous around the world. There are around 300,000 exhibits at the Kyoto International Manga Museum, including invaluable historical documents, currently popular works and articles from overseas. Of these, approximately 50,000 items may be freely handled and read within the building or outside on the grass. The building is a refurbished elementary school, built in the early part of the 20th century.
Manga is presented as historical and industrial product in systematic exhibits in the main gallery, with other special exhibits, events and workshops also held regularly.
