The Former Hokkaido Government Office Building is a red brick, dome-topped, American Neo-Baroque structure that was built in 1888 and declared an Important Cultural Property in 1969. Nicknamed Akarenga ("Red Bricks"), it's a familiar sight for city residents.
The building's front garden is a small forest where you'll find approximately 1,000 trees. Take a stroll through the garden, which changes dynamically with the seasons and is the site of many events hosted throughout the year.
