From October 1, 2018, an accommodation tax will be introduced for overnight stays in Kyoto in the form of a special purpose tax.

Taxes are calculated as follows on a per person, per night basis:
Under 20,000 yen: 200 yen
20,000 yen to 49,999 yen: 500 yen
50,000 yen and over: 1,000 yen

Taxable charges
• Accommodation charges plus associated service charges

Non-taxable charges
• Consumption tax on accommodation charges
• Charges for services unrelated to the room
